MTAB2

I attended the March To A Bestseller 2 event held on Friday on Facebook.  What a mind blowing experience!  It was put on by the two gents who run the Sell More Books Show podcast, Jim and Bryan.  I’ve been dipping my toes into the indie author world, but this was like swimming in the Caribbean!  It was warm, inviting, and I felt welcomed and relaxed.

It was a 12-hour event, but I was only there for a few hours at the beginning and at the end.  I need to go back and read a lot of the conversations I wasn’t able to take part in.  There was a ton of information there from authors, editors, promoters, and people who follow the indie author industry.

More importantly, there were literally a thousand other authors there!  I was honored to be able to interact with them, get their perspectives on what’s working and what isn’t, and to just meet people who are working in different areas of fiction and nonfiction.  I made friends with a few people, including the friendly and frisky miss Julie Farrell.  She writes adult contemporary romances, something I don’t read but I encourage you to check her out.

A word I’ve been hearing from Jim and Bryan is “authorpreneur.”  That word and its essence were very much in the air during the event.  These were independent souls who are making their way in the world as authors without the “help” of big publishing houses.  There were also a number of people there who were thinking about writing, either as a career or as a supplement to what they already had going on.  Again, I’m talking about fiction and non-fiction – writing of all stripes and genres.  Never once did I see any of the “names” disparaging any of the attendees.  A lot of advice was given across boundaries – well, imaginary boundaries.  Fiction to nonfic, Brits to Americans, romance to thrillers.  It was seriously cool!

And then there were the books.  All sorts of ebooks (see the pic above) offered by their authors for just $0.99.  Not in the spirit of making money (although having 1,000 readers hungry for info certainly didn’t hurt!) but in the spirit of helping.  “This is what I know.  I hope it helps you.”

Go subscribe to the Sell More Books Show podcast if you’re an indie author, or just thinking about becoming one.  You’ll thank me – especially when MTAB3 rolls around!
