It doesn’t matter if you’re starting a new business, or thinking about an existing one. Here’s a marketing outline that will cover about 95% of all the businesses I can think of, regardless of type or industry.
It’s an umbrella plan, so don’t grouse about how “It doesn’t talk about my business.” It does, I can almost guarantee it. You may have to change a word or phrase here and there. Try it before you say, “It doesn’t work for me!”
Yes, it’s a bare-bones outline. I’ll be explaining it in detail during upcoming episodes of the Up Your Marketing podcast. Subscribe to it now.
- Determine your Unique Selling Proposition (USP). Know what you’re selling – it’s probably NOT what people are paying you for.
- Your product or service should solve a problem/need, or satisfy a want
- Define your target market – write an avatar
- Get tripped over by your target market – create content of some type they can find when doing other things
- Create a process or program to build relationships with customers
- When you get new clients, transition them into the program ASAP
- Use the relationship process to give them a reason to come back – to become regular customers
- When fulfilling a customer’s need/want, don’t just satisfy them – delight them
- Build a referral program and encourage existing customers to refer new ones
- Get testimonials from delighted customers
- Use these testimonials in your marketing efforts
