Never Give A Discount from Scott Gardner on Vimeo.
Having a sale (that being discounting your prices on products or services over a set amount of time) can help bring additional clients through your business and generate more regular clients. However as a rule, I often tell clients never to discount their prices. You have a number of people who will no matter what price you quote them all always say: can you do better on the price? It's simply a reflex. It doesn't necessarily mean that they think your price is too high, they're just simply asking if you will bring it down. There are a number of people out there who only purchase products or services at the lowest price that they can find. I never advocate chasing those people because literally if someone else's price is a penny less than yours, they will drop you like a hot potato and chase after the lowest price. So chasing after them is not worth your time, effort and energy. However if you keep a higher price and someone asks for a lower price, what I suggest that my clients do is offer to add in additional products or services. For instance I had a gentleman who sold cameras and had a client who came in and asked could he lower his price on a camera? Rather than lower the price on the camera, what my client side to do was offer him a free case for the camera. Now the list price on the case was like fifteen dollars or something like that. My client's price on the camera case was I think about two dollars and fifty cents. His customer was overjoyed by that. It's often not the case that the people who ask for lower prices demand a lower price. Some do, but some just want to see or feel that they are getting an additional value (perhaps that no one else is). If you keep your prices higher and allow for a slightly higher profit margin, then you have the room to do something like that. You can offer additional products and services, even when clients may not ask for them. You may be able to say "and as an additional bonus we will do X". That's important for keeping Y.P.C., your perfect clients, happy and coming back. Let me ask you a question. What is it that you add in that keeps your clients coming back on a regular basis?
